After that response of his, you shouldn't pursue him. There are plenty of reasons why he may have been awkward or nervous, but whatever it is, you don't need to chase the guy.
'but I don't believe it continues' is pretty much saying there won't be any more dates. Go on the next date with girl!

Why used to word I don’t ”believe” . Doesn’t he believe in his chances or something because he was so akward…
