So, im 16 and i like a 18yo guy... we chat a lot, we get along pretty well. A few days ago I asked him for his number, since we always talk on Instagram. He told me that he was going to give me his number, but only if I told him my intentions. I told him that I really liked him and that I thought he was cute. So he asked me my age, I told him I was sixteen. He gave me his number and said "no flirting intentions". I asked him why, and he said in a very tender way in Spanish, that i was very young (chiquita🥺). We continued talking and then I apologized, because I didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable. He told me that he was not uncomfortable, and he kept saying very sweet things to me. He told me that talking to me was VERY nice, and that he thought I was nice. The next morning he sent me a message saying the same thing, that I was great and other things like that...
I want to add that at one point he told me "were you only talking to me to flirt? 😩" to which I did not know what to answer..

I don't know what to do about it, he is very cute, but he already told me not to flirt with him. Still he tells me such nice things... :(

You're stuck in a rut caused by societies age judgement.
For anybody who is over 18 dating a person under 18 can be dangerous to say the least.
A friend of mine once was put on probation and labeled a sex offender merely for kissing his girlfriend he was 17 she was 15.
Society has decided that once a man reaches 18 he can only date his own age or older or go to jail.
Same with a woman if she dates somebody it has to be older or same age once they reach 18 and in some states even 17.
Really it's not right and it's not fair but it's the way that our government has set things up.
I personally think that you should be allowed to date within a 10-year. 5 years older 5 years younger.
But legally if he does anything with you even just kissing you he could be charged with sexually assaulting a minor.
If I were you I would turn him into a best friend and hope that once you turn 18 you can have him

don't take it personally.. you're potential jail bait for him if you guys engage in what can be seen as predatory by him. I would've done the same thing. He's respected you by being honest with you "tu estas muy chiquita" for him currently as things are. And even IF the your state's age of consent is 16 he can still get in a lifelong world of trouble.

He gave you his number.. I don't think he's rejected you as much as essentially stated it can't happen at this moment.

Personally, I think you've got some serious 'huevos' that many guys wished they had by telling him you thought he was cute and you liked him. Don't lose that.

@JessieBellll Then you've not understood my perspective. I never said I do not "care" about laws. I said laws that exist to maintain a sense of control over a population are wrong AND that we abide by established laws for the safety of the population.

Now, if I feel I must do 'anything at all' on behalf of my family's well being, the ramifications of the legalities are irrelevant. This is not the same as not caring about the law. Non of my statements have been contradictory.

Now to be fair, we were discussing a hypothetical situation through DMs that isn't the same scenario that this young lady is facing.

And I do stand by both statements in the DM and this one made here as it relates to me. My perspective here really is that there's no pussy worth risking jail time. For this guy to pursue this young lady is to open both of them through some unfortunate and unnecessary stresses legally and socially.
