Should you continue to date a man who is ALWAYS late for a date?

I'm dating a guy who I have been knowing for almost a year now... but he never shows up at the time he says it's ALWAYS 2 or 3 hours later... but when he does show up we have a nice time when we go out. I try to be considerate because he's a Truck Driver and I know he works a lot of crazy hours. I love him very much... and he says he loves me a lot. How do I address his lateness when we have our date nights?

As someone who once dated a girl who kept me waiting for hours every time I collected to go out. I worked out roughly how late she was on average, and then added the time on..
So for example if the truck driver is due to meet you, and comes round 3 hours late? make the date 3 hours earlier than you want the date to start..
IF he turns up less than the 3 hours though and you have to keep HIM waiting? How he reacts to that is what I would base my answer to your initial question on.. If he's ok with it the you carry on dating.. if it is one rule for him and another for you? Tell him to get back in his truck and keep on driving next time..

I want to clear something up based on what others say about it being a tough job and keeping time... I drive for a living too and I can be literally anywhere at any given time. If I'm going to be late, I phone to say I'm going to be late because I hate keeping anyone waiting.. just something to think about.

That's very good advice and I'm the same way. I ALWAYS let a person know if I'm going to be late, on time, or I can't make it.

@TootToot. Exactly. It's really just common courtesy, and it only has to take a minute to pull in and make the call.

Unfortunately, some people have jobs that are like that and you just have to roll with it. That's their life. I'm sure he doesn't like it, either. It probably annoys the crap out of him.

I would encourage you to not put pressure on him, please. Because if he really likes you, he will probably push himself to impress you. And that will get him in a wreck and he might die.

I don't pressure him. He says I'm a good woman and he ALWAYS thanks me for understanding. He said that things are going to get better once we move in together... and I'm looking forward to that!!

If you know his job can keep him from coming at the right time, then you shouldn't give up on him because he's trying his best. Maybe you can try setting up a time but going there later then usual as well so you're not waiting for that long.

My dad is a truck driver. Always late to everything, though he’s been getting better as he’s gotten older. He has narcolepsy and can randomly fall asleep, so that’s partly why.

It really depends on how patient you are. That’s a very demanding job, but also 2-3 hours is rather excessive.

Yes it is! I've told him several times to do what you say your going to do if your coming at 7 am in the morning then be at my house at 7am. I've gotten to the point when he says he'll be here at 7am I don't get ready until 8 because that's about what time he'll show up.

I'm going to talk to him when he gets back in town next weekend... he's very good at calling and texting on the road but does a horrible job with our date nights!!!

Why is he so late?

Some times he sleeps late after he's worked so many hours on the road... and I tell him to stay home and rest in that situation... but when he's off and at home he's trying to squeeze everything into one day such as paying bills, going to the bank, washing clothes, etc... etc but I told him to let me do those things for him so he won't have so much on his plate... that way we will have more time to spend together.

I work part-time so I don't mind helping him.

@TootToot That sounds like a reasonable solution, and I think it's very kind of you to offer to help him out with that. I think he should let you help.
