A lot of people are uncomfortable with the subject. That said, hypnotic phenomena exists all around us and happens naturally all the time; that's actually how we learn language, for example (not necessarily by formal hypnosis).

People cannot ordinarily be hypnotized against their will. Much of it that is involuntary happens over a much longer period of time in ways that professional hypnotists cannot control.

One thing I find is: People seem to think the hypnotist has control over the subject; that typically isn't the case (in part because people use only 10% of their brain in a waking state anyway). People don't really think about the mechanics of digestion or how sounds penetrate the ear i. e. muscle movements in the ear drum. People don't have to be hypnotized to experience hypnotic phenomena.
