Should I pay for a date’s gas if he drives to meet me?

I’m meeting a guy for the first time (Aside from video chats) and hey driving a little over an hour to visit.

Is it appropriate to offer to help pay for his gas or is that weird?

You could pay for gas, I offered to give him a free drink when he gave me a ride to a New Years event and I would give my co worker free beers for giving my rides home from work.

Maybe pay for the date instead. If you plan on driving to him next time I wouldn't worry about it at all because it will eventually turn out even.
