Why won’t he just tell me?

I’ve been seeing this guy for 4/5 months and have asked him what he wants out of this “situation ship” because it seemed like he just wanted to be friends with benefits and i vocalized that that’s not what I’m looking for, so basically every time I bring up the topic he avoids it or we end up fighting because he won’t give me an answer and not talk for a day or two and then he will call me or text me like nothing happened… I’ve been open with him and told him if he doesn’t want anything with me that’s fine but just tell me and I get nothing, we still hook up hang out and I’ve even been around his daughter so I’m just so confused
