Do you ever take steps to keep yourself safe when meeting up with someone from a dating app?

I feel like even as a guy it’s important because you just never know who you’re meeting up with, and I’ve read stories where guys where set up to be robbed and possibly even murdered from using a dating app and talking to someone they thought was a girl. So when you use dating apps, do you take any steps to ensure your safety before meeting up with someone?

I would meet in a public place and arrange my own transportation home - maybe at a McDonald’s walking distance from my house or a Starbucks one bus ride away. And we could meet during the day and he could let me take his photo.
