Personally I think marriage is a beautiful thing and it builds a stronger bond than when you are just dating. However I have had people who told me it’s just a legal contract between couples , it doesn’t make any difference from just dating someone except from the fact that you can’t just break up whenever you want to.
So the idea of marriage or concept of it is a Social Construct. That leads one to believe their marriage is binding, and forever... but it is and it is not. You can be the worse spouse in history, but your partner has no legal protection against you because you married her/him when come time for divorce.
Its is a legal contract as well but it is one that holds no value until it come times to divorce then get your ass raked over the coals. If you are the high wage earner, and you provide finically then all the marriage contract means is that you will pay big time when comes time to divorce.
Seriously, when you get married its is legally biding but all the promises made never have to be kept. You have no way to enforce the terms of the terms of the contract, other than to divorce them and then you got to give up half of everything.

But what if they are not faithful? Well divorce laws in non-at-fault states will not consider the fact they they promised to be faithful and were not... they will get have of everything in the divorce regardless even though they broke the terms of the contract.
Seriously if you want the fullest protection of the law against your property and finances then marriage is literally the worse contract you can ever sign. It is literally the only contract in the world that you can sign, and if the other half fails to live up to any of the things they promised to do for you there is literally nothing you can do about it... they will walk away with half of everything.
Hell in my divorce the judge even said to me, I have no idea how you stayed married to that women for 24 years. But because of the marriage being legally binding she still got 50% everything... and do not be fooled yourself this happens to women with dead beat men as well... women pay alimony and lose half their bank accounts and property as well.
The people that say it’s just a legal contract don’t have faith in God and those are the people that actually shouldn’t get married period, until they accept God into their lives. I grew up in a family that wasn’t really religious , that never went to church , but I had friends that did go to church and I would go with them sometimes , for a long time I was very skeptical about religion , I had a hard time believing in it , until one day that all changed for me , I accepted God into my life and positive things started happening to me , things that made me feel blessed that helped me see things positive over negative, Before I had faith in God I realized how selfish of a person I was when I got into relationships, even though I didn’t feel selfish and treated her the way I wanted to be treated I still didn’t notice my selfishness , Everyone has selfishness in them , but if you can’t remove selfishness for your partner then love will never grow. It’s pretty much just a waste of time, God has guided me to see love and relationships from a whole new light. We can’t force someone to love us , all we can do is give to them the same way we want to receive , Focus on yourself and love the same way you want to be loved , it won’t always be perfect but when you remove selfishness for each other Love will grow , most people don’t know what that means so if they choose to walk away , let them go and realize you deserve love the same way you want to be loved.
This is why americans divorce so much. You don't even understand the difference between marriage and dating.
In dating, your boyfriend does not need to help you pay your debts. If your married, your husband will need to help you pay your medical bills. Your boyfriend has no legal obligation to do anything for you.
here's another example:
If your husband said he wanted to give up his job and take all his savings of 100,000 dollars to create a business. It took 8 years for the business to become profitable. Since he was without income for 8 years, you were the one working a job , supporting him, providing him with health insurance, paying all the bills, feeding him, buying him new clothes. This is you get part of your husband's assets upon divorce. Because you spent years supporting him and feeding him so that he can build his business. He would not have been so successful without your hard work and contribution.
If you were a girlfriend doing all these (wifely duties) for him, then he decides to leave you, you will not get a single cent for all your hard work supporting him all these years. Girlfriends do not need to support their boyfriends. But wives need to financially support their husbands.
If you're doing wifely duties for only title of a "girlfriend", just make sure you don't get ripped off badly at the end.

Here is another example,
A wife needs to get to work by 6 am in the morning, which is extremely early. Her husband needs to get to work by 8 am in the morning. The husband usually wakes up at 7 am. Since the wife wants to get as much sleep as possible, she didn't want to take the bus to work because it would take a much longer commute. She wants her husband to wake up with her at 5 am so that he drive her to work since the car is much faster than the bus. Her husband is much more likely to need to do that for her than a boyfriend.
Your boyfriend has no obligation to wake up 2 hours prior to his usual time and drive you to work. He can do it if he wants to but he really does not have to under any circumstances.

It highlights a lot of the Cheater methods in these studies including many pretending as if divorced and widowed people never got married. Other thing is found interesting about these studies is the length they went to say that men lived longer when married yet single women lived longer. Lot of this has to do w/ societies desire to force men into the marriage trap because they know how debilitation marriage can be to men.

I was really just curious if we included divorcees so I can get an idea 'getting married' to 'never' looks like. It's still positive. This calculation says how long a man lives whether he or she decides a divorce, applying stats from both haha and vegas.
In my opinion, I'd rather stay single my entire life than risk experiencing divorce. If divorce didn't exist, I wouldn't even be here and be busy trying to find someone to marry. It's in my opinion how long I live isn't as valuable as how long I could live married for life, or having to live a single day.. divorced. Online horror stories or in person convinced me to keep an eye on the divorce rate, and the laws governing the ease to do divorce. Married people live longer because they tend to be less lonely and happier because they know they have a family who cares for them. Married people also tend to be more financially stable than single folks. They don't have to worry as much about losing their jobs since their spouses are also working.

Nobody cares if you don't want to get married. You hate women which is why you don't want to get married. But at the end of the day, a single lonely dreadful miserable existence is not the life I envision for myself 30 years from now.

Marriage is a contract between two people that (usually) entitles them to certain benefits from the state -- lower taxes, the ability to inherit each other's possessions when one dies, can make decisions on the other's behalf (medical care, etc), receiving the spouse's social security benefits, able to set up special trusts for the other's use, usually the ability to file joint taxes (depends on country), that sort of thing.

u Obvously, there is a legal definition for marriage, but aside from that. . . marriage is whatever you and your partner make it. If you are married but make no effort and assume that marriage adds no value to a relationship, that is what you will discover. If you are married, you both make your marriage more important than yourselves, and you are both willing to work for the marriage, then you will discover the real reward for those who take it seriously.
Historically, a marriage is a specific relationship between a man and a woman for the explicit purpose of producing offspring, and this has been the case in basically every culture in the world regardless of whether monogamy or polygamy was the norm, and having other sexual partners outside of that relationship (including homosexual ones) has never been considered equivalent, largely for that reason regardless of country or religion.
In the eyes of a modern, western government, marriage is basically little more than a civil contract between two people (and very rarely more than two), and its meaning is otherwise subjective or fodder for activism, often exploited for political gains. In the case of the United States, marriage as far as the government is concerned is mainly for taxation and custodial purposes.
It's more than a legal contract.
It means growing old and sharing your whole life with someone. It means that you forgive and learn to work through hardship and celebrate your successes.
It means to support one another for life and it means when no one has your back, your partner should.
It's being one. A team. It's being intimate and emotional.

If women really wanted marriage for love, commitment, etc. they would get the laws changed so they could no longer steal from men during divorce. I have seen evidence it is a government tax scam. Based on English common law, in most nations today, its original purpose was financial security for the woman. In ancient cultures, marriage was entirely a religious affair, and in the majority, one could be married just by sleeping in the same room for one night even without physical contact. Marriage however gives many a feeling of security which unfortunately is as easily dissolved as it is created in modern society. It is better to not worry about ideas such as real, true, or lasting as no one can say what tomorrow will bring, and just live in the moment.
