It's not meant to be.. I think some try to make it that way, or think it means they "own" that person or they can now "control" that person...

Unless you or she added some language to your vows that included the terms “slave” or “indentured servitude” then you are not in a slavery contract.

The man cannot leave without the woman’s permission and without paying a severe fine (alimony) which lasts basically forever. So financial enslavement and if she doesn’t want something, she has power over you

Alimony doesn’t last forever though. People walk away from their marriages all the time without permission from their wives. They disappear and don’t show up for divorce proceedings and the judge issues a default judgment just like any other charge.

I know many guys who have walked away from their homes and lifetime possessions, careers, and businesses, just to be free of a woman. That says a lot. But she gets to keep your shit. That’s the unwritten rule in this country. That’s how you buy back your freedom, you give up all you’ve spent your life working towards. And I’ve yet to meet a man who regretted it. Peace is invaluable

Ahh, I thought you were single asking if it’s a good idea to get married even though it’s a slavery contract. Since you’re married, does it feel like a slavery contract to you?

Gotcha. You’re remarried and paying alimony to your ex-wife, right? This explains a lot now.

Remarried yes. I’ve narrowly avoided alimony with the other ones. But they still cost me dearly. And here comes a possible round 3 😑. It’s my fault for not knowing better

Sorry you’re going through this again. I was thinking the question was coming from a person who’s never been married. This makes a lot more sense now.

Mental illness changes people, and then they own you. And what started out as love ends in basically slavery

Why are you talking about mental illness? Is that part of the question, was I missing something?

Have you both ever thought about couples therapy? Not asking for personal details. Just putting it out there.

I don't think it is slavery in the Western nations, but relationships do occur where one or both people feel trapped.

No not at all. Marriage should be something both people want so there shouldn't be any slaving going on
