I think it's a phase that some must go through to learn. Not much you can do about it. They find bad guys more interesting than good guys.

I wouldn't say they like being treated like shit. That is very untrue. They are just too gullible to know what they are looking for at that stage. Once they have learnt, they become as sharp as wips and will give good guys chances and basically bad guys will have little to no chance with them.
