Do you think it’s wrong to have preferences on looks, to care more about the personality but wanting to be with someone who you are attracted to as well?

No one would survive in a relationship with someone they have no physical attraction to. I don't care how enlightened a person is... Physical attraction is just a component of attraction as a whole. Granted, it's highly likely to find another person more physically attractive, but that doesn't mean other variables (ie: personality) would be found attractive. Physical attraction is just one variable in the equation... It, just like the rest of the variables, simply cannot be zero, to be successful.

For me personally, I have reasonable standards for looks. Basically, good hygiene + average looking or better.


However, I have some VERY high standards when it comes to personality and chemistry and connection.


It’s not wrong at all to care a little bit. But, if you don’t want your relationships to be shallow, it’s best to focus on the intangibles.

No, and you should care a little bit. I know this adorable woman who married this incredibly sickly looking dude. I don't know maybe he has a great personality, but all of their kids have been born unhealthy and requiring extensive medical Care as babies. The oldest of the two is three now, and he never outgrew not being cute.

Looks are absolutely a factor, it's delusional to think they aren't somewhat of a factor. Looks attract and personality seals the deal.

No, it's totally reasonable to consider looks because most people want to be physically attracted to their partner. It just shouldn't be the main thing, and it sounds like it isn't for you.

You need both physical and emotional/mental attraction for a good relationship. As long as you're not not over-emphasizing one over the other, it isn't wrong.
