Why would she refer to me as her "Significant Other" rather than her "Boyfriend"?

Recently committed to a relationship and went from dating to being a couple, and while I've been called someone's boyfriend in the past I've never been called their significant other so I'm just wondering if there's any difference.

It is a larger commitment. She has assigned high value to you while letting you know that she is quite serious. She’s also putting some pressure on you.

This is good. It seems like we were both upfront about what we want and both consider the relationship to be headed in that direction.

I agree as long as your End Game is same. She’s more towards Marriage. S O is like being “engaged”….

I'm not sure it that's where she's at currently. We've been together for 4 months and while we've talked about our plans for the future and if they line up it's still far too early to denote that level of expected commitment.

I think you're right that it's probably a more serious term than boyfriend, I guess since she hadn't referred to me as her boyfriend previously it's why I'm hazy on things.

Hopefully this is in fact the case. We both wanted to date with a more serious future in mind but now 4 months in I didn't know whether that was a sign of something more significant.
