Why does this girl keep mentioning "my girlfriend"?

Basically there's this girl I know, and she sometimes makes statements like "maybe your girlfriend would like that." The thing is that I've never said that I have a girlfriend since I'm currently single. The other day she saw me talking to a girl I know and when I talked to her afterwards she kept calling her my "girlfriend." It was weird because she kept mentioning her afterwards, even after I told her that she was married. I would almost think that she likes me since when we're alone she's flirty and always smiling, but when other people are around she ignores me. Why does she act like this?

Most likely she is unsure as to whether you are single and looking for clarification on the matter. Therefore, if you are interested to the point where you would like to pursue her, just let her know your relationship status. Once you have done so, this "girlfriend tagging" phase of hers should end.

However, if it does continue past this point, you may want to gently speak with her about it as there is a decent chance her actions stem from insecurity. The probability of this being the case is very slim, but worth mentioning.

I say things like that when I know the guy has a girlfriend.
Maybe she's gotten the impression that you're not single.
Or maybe she just expects you to say you're single and don't have a girlfriend.

She's trying to find out if you have a girlfriend. If she comes right out and asks it might seem too forward. This is common (or at least it used to be). She probably likes you, but it sounds like either she is shy, or doesn't want to appear too forward around other people.
