He was assuming and often Assuming makes an ASS out of you and me. This is what happened here... Many times I have had women leave a beret, one layer of clothing, scarf, etc. When a girl really likes you then they do that. He did two things wrong: 1. he assumed and 2. probably has never had this happen before by his reaction. That is not how one handles that. You should pardon him for not knowing better.
