How can I show the guy I’m talking to I’m interested in actually getting to know him?

We’ve really been lacking communication because I’ve been so nonchalant with him.. and we had a conversation recently about how he thinks I ain’t interested in him.. And I told him I was and that I just suck at showing it.. We agreed to Try and communicate better and stuff.. And he said I can’t do nonchalant with him. And lately our schedules have conflicted with getting to spend time together. So what are ways until we can see each other that I can show him? I do like him, and want to actually get to know him on a deeper level.. Im the type of person that likes to talk in person. Or on the phone not text.. But what are ways I can show him through text too?

Text him randomly. Doesn't have to be long conversation and don't just text 'hey'.

Text something like "Hey you! I'm really busy at work but I just had to say hi. Can we call later and see when we're both free? I'd love to see you again."

I hate texting just like you, but I'd love to get random texts that don't require constant back and forth.
