How to tell if it's worth asking someone out?

Like, is there a certain period of time, a certain type of personality, a way to tell if they'd be even somewhat interested? People say "just ask" but I think that's stupid. If I end up creeping someone out, probably like 5 more people are gonna be creeped out by me too. Who knows how much further that could spread.

To help get a good answer, I'm not very attractive at all. Like, 4/10 probably. I'm in high school. I'm 18. I have no friends.

The rule of thumb is that you go for eye contact a couple of times. Smile at each other a few times. Can even try waving.

After that part is done you both have the go-ahead to approach and ask the other one things. It does not guarantee a yes but it is the social cue you usually look for.

In highschool? You never really know. That's just the sad reality. But you don't have to go right for it either since you meet often. You can try talking a little. See how it feels sitting together in the cafeteria and things like that. If the feeling is all good you can ask. And if it goes wrong before then? "She sat next to us." is a comment you will survive.

That said in highschool I had a friend who literally sat on my lap, shooed other girls away, monpolized my time, asked to hang out privately and even suggested we practice kissing. And then she asked me out straight. I did not realize she liked me until she literally said she does. My point is, us guys can be a little dense sometime.

If you get along well with someone and have good conversations with them it's probably safe to ask them out. Start with something simple like going for coffee or lunch and see how it goes before moving onto something more date-like such as a movie.
