When is the right time to ask a girl for her number?

This is my first ever question so I apologize if im missing something I should include.

So I ran into this girl in my class in the bookstore and we had a brief exchange and I kind of started to like her so I went up to her after class last week and had an actual full on conversation for the first time.

It seemed like she enjoyed the conversation since she was really responsive and she even went out of her way to step off the side walk where she was going and into the street with me to continue our conversation instead of just splitting off when I was about to leave. So I want to ask her for her number since we only really ever see eachother 2 times a week but when would be the right time?

I feel like its too soon to ask tomorrow (even though my sister even said I should ask then) and should wait until the end of this week so I could get 2 more interactions before asking for her number or just wait until next week. What do you think?

Yeah tomorrow would have been good. I'm gonna be honest with you, I was really hoping that by "When is the right time?" you were asking along the lines of "How many minutes into an approach?" or "How to gauge the level of interest and flow to really hit at the perfect moment?"

You definitely should have asked for her phone number that second time you talked to her, the time you described in your story. It seems that you were nailing it. The only criticism I have is that you didn't get those digits.

Generally any time a girl shows any preference to continue the conversation, if she deliberately slows down her walking pace, or if she relaxes her body posture, in the case that you're doing an approach where she's sitting, then you can interpret that as a good signal to continue. And in this case she reflexively followed you for a pace or two, and then she realized that you were headed in a different direction. That's gold.

That would have been a fine time to number close. You could have said, "Hey, my next class is in the Meyers building, but tell you what, why don't I get your phone number and we can talk more later?"

I think the biggest trick is just to not chicken out. Remember it's perfectly normal for young men to notice pretty girls and want to spend time with them.

The frame is the most important thing, but if you like you can have some basic scripts prepared, so you can feel prepared and competent in the moment.

But really there isn't much to it, sometimes the simplest honest expressions are the best way to go. It's like I told my friend when he was fussing about a girl that he kinda fumbled the ball with. I told him, all you had to say was "Sheila, I think you're really cool. What's your phone number?"

Right before you're about to cut the conversation short. You're meeting somebody by chance or at work or whatever. Have a conversation that shows you are trying to get to know her and if she seems like maybe she's digging you, towards the end of the conversation

"hey I need to get back to work" "I'm having a bit of a crazy day but" "oh, I'm running late for something"

Followed by "do you have an Instagram or a phone number or something?"

Smile a lot, non-excessive eye contact, if she doesn't want to give you her number but asks for yours, just tell her it's OK have a nice day cuz that kid shit ain't worth your time. And you see where it takes you

There is no right time. Either you do it too early or you don't. Everybody is different when it comes to asking for a number from a person one is interested in.

I am personally very conservative and I usually don't give my number to anyone, regardless on how many times I do interact with a stranger.

My reasoning is that if someone wants my number, it is because there is a very specific intention behind the request. Ask yourself what your final goal of wanting her number? Is it because you intend to flirt with her, hence to attempt to get intimate in a very defined time frame or is it just to add her to your list of phone numbers?

Also, if you don't do it early enough, the girl may think that you are not interested in her and if you are too quick, she will realize that you have specific intentions and that might be a deterrent.

Do whatever you think is right and take into account that you may fail with your request. Are you ready to face a rejection?

There is no right time or wrong time. If you ask and she wants it, she will take it. What is more important is picking up on signals that she will take your number to maximize the chances.

I would wait until you have a pretty good clue she is into you. Does she flirt, do you talk a lot in person? Is she engaged in the conversation? Does she smile and laugh? You want to be looking for indicators she would be interested or possibly interested in going on some dates.

If you think she would, nothing wrong with asking her. You could say (if comfortable) “Hey, I’ve enjoyed our conversations so far. Any chance you want to exchange numbers and get together sometime?”.

You have done two things there. One, you get the number and two, you’ve just set the scene for a date. That would be the ideal situation if you think she will respond positively.

If a person likes you they’ll give you there number it’s as simple as that if they don’t like you they won’t give thats number. You could have 1000 conversations but she doesn’t like you and there’s not a doesn’t like you enough it’s either she likes you or she doesn’t same goes with any interaction people either like someone or they don’t people get being nice confused with like.
She might just being nice to you because she sees you want someone to talk to those that want someone to talk to are seen as lonely and people talk to those people because they May feel bad for them better hope that’s not what she’s doing. And only way to find out is to be a man and go up to her and ask for her number tell her why you want her number that you are interested in her and if she declines you Have your answer that she was being nice to you and thought of you as a lonely person
If you have to manipulate someone to like you then they don’t actually like you at all.

You have phone numbers for friends right? Did you have a hard time figuring out the right time to ask for those?

It's the same thing. If you wanna meet up to hang out, you just say "give me your number and i'll text you when I'm free to (insert social activity)." after they have mentioned they are interested in that activity.

Just like you would with guys.

You should only be looking at her like a possible girlfriend AFTER you have been best friends for a while.

Until then, treat her like she's any other friend.

Well the thing is... If she's into you or interested in a friendship she will give you her number. If she's not she won't. The worst that will happen is she will say no. Then you know not to waste your time on someone who doesn't feel the same about you.

It’s 2022, and you can be kicked out of skool for asking a girl for her number. That’s getting off easy too. Could end up charged with sexual harassment and ruin your entire life. She’ll ask for your number or offer hers if she wants that. If she doesn’t, and you make that move you become a creep and a criminal.
