My boyfriend says he doesn't want kids but why do I catch him looking at kids and calling them cute?

Did same thing when I was younger. I didn't think I'd make a good father as ultimate reason. I loved kids and could get along so well with them. They loved me like always making me their "fun uncle" even when I wasn't related in blood. But being a "fun uncle" and "good father" is worlds apart.

Kids think I'm awesome when I do huge air on motorcycle. That doesn't exactly scream father figure. It just makes kids think I'm cool. You know what I mean? Like even the very act of doing the most dangerous motorcycle stunts is the epitome of someone not fit to be a father. I do tequila shots after with my buds and that doesn't say "father". So maybe his reluctance is like mine when I was younger like he loves kids but he doesn't think he's ready to take care of them.

He doesn't want the responsibility or raising it, he can still like them.
it's like having a pet, you like cats or dogs or both, but owning one might not be in your plans right now, due to financial or your apartment doesn't allow pets.

Kids are expensive, time consuming, a take a large chunk out of your life, while some people jump at the chance to experience that, many people will hang back, and weigh the pros and cons, some may even reject them outright and vow to never have them.

Because kids ARE cute, and humans are instinctively driven to protect and admire them. But actually HAVING a kid is a huge, life-changing investment in money and time; a much, much bigger decision than just enjoying someone else's for a while.

That's 2 very different things. Like I like kids, I like to see them having fun and enjoying life, I like to see kids opening up gifts which is why I volunteer during the holidays and spend my own money on gifts for those in need but all of that doesn't mean I want kids. Wanting kids also doesn't mean I like kids, some people have kids for legacy reasons and not because they like kids. I'm kind of the opposite to this in that I have always wanted kids but I never will have kids.
