I think many people grew up being told that "It's what's on the inside that counts." They took that to mean that physical attraction doesn't matter as much. In reality, you need to have both, otherwise you get friendzoned. A romantic relationship requires an emotional connection and at least some sexual attraction for it to work.

I was a guy who thought women were more shallow than men at one time too. Then I met a woman on a dating site that I wasn't very physically attracted to. I was trying to be nice to her and it quickly got carried away to where she was messaging me a lot and thinking we were gonna be together. I turned off my active indicator on messenger so she couldn't see when I was online. I went back to messaging the more attractive women on my contact list who weren't as interested in me, lol.
In that moment I realized that I am just as shallow as any woman no matter what I thought. we all go after our most attractive options, and look for an emotional connection as well as physical attraction.
So my point is that I don't think those other hypocritical guys have been in the situation of being pursued by a woman they weren't interested in, so they could understand that they're shallow too. We're all shallow when it comes to love. If there's no sexual attraction it's just a friendship.

Well shallow just means of little depth, or having feelings for someone that are only skin deep.
Of course if there's an emotional connection as well as a physical one, then it isn't a completely skin deep attraction. However, if you have an emotional connection with someone, but you reject them because the physical attraction is lacking, it could technically be considered shallow. My point is everyone is shallow to some extent when it comes to selecting or rejecting potential partners and that isn't a bad thing, it's just the nature of attraction. Human nature doesn't follow man-made moral codes.

That's because of the teachings of the older generations. My grandma told me to be nice to girls, buy her flowers, and I would never get any sex.

So I started seeing the ways the guys who get the girls treated the girls at school would do to get the girls. I started treating the girls the way the other guys would treat the girls and got the girls.

It's what's on the inside that matters is an old way of thinking. A child will believe in the Santa clause at first, but eventually, he will realize it is bullshit. So younger people know it's bullshit, but it's old people that keep telling us the bullshit that don't realize that.
