Girl already told me we could be great friends before we have even met yet?

I met this girl on Facebook and I said why don't we chat a bit and if we get along good we can meetup for a date. We've been chatting for about 2 weeks now and I've suggested a date which I think she agreed to. So now we were talking and she responds out of the blue with we could be great friends. That's not what I was going for I want to date. I don't know Maybe that's my problem I should just let things flow first instead of trying to date right off the bat.

She rejected you.
People, not just women, use these excuses as the most common ways to reject someone without being brutal:
- We could be good friends / I see you like a friend.
- It's not you, it's me / I'm not ready for a relationship now.
- You deserve better than me.
- The chemistry isn't there / You're not my type (to not say they find you ugly).

You can argue she didn't even give you a chance irl, but some personality traits can transpare via chat as well. And anyway things are made in 2, so if she didn't initiate any conversation by herself and didn't take any step towards you (but you kept going anyway) then it was doomed from the beginning, you can't do all by yourself, it can't work without her participation and the more you continue without her participation the more you plummet your chances, generally... Because it puts expectations on them they'll have to either decline or take charge of, to "not offend", so it becomes easily a turn off if you push it.
On top of that, if you start with the intention of dating her, she knows she was selected only because of her looks and maybe she isn't interested into that. Maybe she wants to earn a guy who gets interested in her, rather than having it already granted. Or in general, maybe she wants the warranty that the guy is not that superficial to consider a date with a woman he doesn't even know anything about.

Other than that, it might be even not your fault: maybe she is just dating actively, and has to take decisions about who select and who discard, or got back in contact with an ex etc...

We haven't even gone on a date yet. We're supposed to go to the offroad park this weekend so she's excited about that. Last girl I took out there I was trying to figure out how to send her home in an uber. Lol
I have heard the best relationships start off as friends. Not sure I agree with it but we can see.
