That takes the pressure off him because you let him know you will be exploring the new place anyway. So if he wants to meet you it’s on him to agree. If he says no, no big deal

First get his attention. Get him interested in you.
Then, tell him where you live.
Then, ask him if he thinks there is any chance that he would ever possibly visit [the city where you live.]
(If he says no, you're still not necessarily out of the game. Because you could say, "If I ever was in your city, would you want to meet me?")

But make sure you take to him long enough to develop a rapport. He won't meet you if he doesn't trust you.

I asked him. He seemed happy and said yes to meet as we are in different cities he said he will come in the next year and let me know.

Or you could also say, “Hey next time you’re in my city give me a call and we can go grab some coffee or tea.” Keep it relaxed. You’re letting him now you’re interested and would like to talk some time, but you’re not really directly asking him out. You’ve let him know you’re interested and the ball is in his court.
