I was brought up “old school” and my dad said to me if you initiate a date with a girl and you want to take her out, you pay for the date. It doesn’t entitle you to anything else, just be a gentleman. It’s just common courtesy. If I couldn’t afford it, then I wouldn’t ask her. But the problem is now you’ve got traditional and modern dating now, and of course opinions are like a**eholes, everybody’s got one.

Maybe. For me it varies. I want to do the thing that will make the other person the most comfortable. If I ask, I will pay almost every time unless she strongly insists on paying for herself. If she is paid considerably less than I am, I will mostly insist on paying while making her understand that I'm not expecting anything in return.

Yeah I agree. However I also think that the guest should honestly offer to pay for their own things.

I disagree. Asking for a date, is asking for someone's time. It doesn't imply any payment offering for ones food at all in my opinion.

Like "grey let's grab lunch together"doesn't mean I'll pay your lunch.

It is basic courtesy to pay, though, since they were willing to take a chunk out of their schedules to spend time with you.
