I’m trying to figure out why I uneducated and lazy guy I never showed interest in, kept trying to convince me to lose weight so we could date. Why would he think I’m interested in him?

He clearly thinks very highly of himself and may think you must like him because he is "so awesome" that he can make demands of you before he "lets" you be closer to him.

Perhaps he takes this conclusion by seeing you are single and keep replying to him, or maybe never rejected him straight away, so he thinks you'd be ready to date him, otherwise you would just reject him.
On the other side, if he focuses on you (who are unavailable to him) means he is probably single and desperate, otherwise he'd focus on better matches that reciprocate him. Or maybe he does already but wants to ensure side sexual hookups to cheat on potential partners, who knows.
Reject him directly if you didn't already, and stop replying afterwards. He is not only being annoying but he is disrespecting you too because he is implying you are too ugly to date, in general. I don't think you owe him the respect to reply to his messages back.

He’s just an arsehole and a waste of oxygen. Just ignore him and let him think as he wants but don’t date him. That’s a red flag for emotional abuse.
