What do you think of swimming for a first date?

I'm going on a date with a guy I like (he asked me!) and we're planning on going for a drink. But one idea I had was that we could go swimming first. Basically because he's told me in the past he can't swim but would like to learn, so I was thinking I could teach him. His parents wouldn't let him learn when he was a child because they didn't want him to drown😂🤦‍♀️. I actually have an instructor qualification so would know what I was doing.

I feel like it could be kinda cute and fun. Do you think it would be, or would it be weird to do that for a first date?

It's a nice idea, and would certainly make for a memorable first date, but I can see it backfiring if your teaching style doesn't gel with the way he learns, or he comes to view you as someone trying to assert authority over him (whether you actually were or not). Teaching someone something as a teacher isn't quite the same thing as teaching them as a friend; doing it as a potential romantic partner is probably even trickier.

If you're good at putting people at ease while instructing them, you might be okay- I'd definitely suggest doing something together (like going out to eat) afterwards, though, to put things on a more even keel and get to talk a bit more. It'd probably be safer to save that for a second date if you're uncertain of your abilities in that area. Good thinking outside the box, though, in any event.

This sounds like dat me 2 or 3, allow him to be in a comfortable setting where you are both more on an even part to begin with.


There are all sorts of things you may teach each other over time.


I’m very confident but wouldn’t necessarily to comfortable with someone teaching me to swim if I couldn’t (I’m actually a strong swimmer).


But you never know, maybe make the suggestion, id be happy to show my date myself in swim trunks and seeing my date in swimwear would also be appealing lol.

I think it is a GREAT idea with one thought: some people don't like to be taught, particularly by the people they're close to or want to be close to. So that might be worth considering.

That said, if a woman suggested a swim date, I'd love the idea.
