Why was my date so awkward and quiet the whole time but still prolonged the date, but then didn’t ask me out again?

With only that little info it's very hard to tell. If I was forced to make a guess it's that they are very shy and self-conscious. They stuck with the date for so long despite being awkward and quiet because they genuinely like you. Having been this kind of person in my past, it's possible that they didn't ask you out again because they could tell you felt awkward about how they were acting and feel discouraged, worried and down on themselves due to this. When I dealt with severe depression, I'd do that sort of thing and would just give up on a girl because I had convinced myself that by being awkward I had ruined my chances with her.

If this person isn't shy, then I have no idea. If they are and you think you'd actually like to see them again, I'd suggest you make the next move. If you let them know that you are still interested it may give them enough confidence to try again. And if you know of a date idea that you think would make them more comfortable you should definitely suggest it.

Wow this is really perceptive. Yeah on the second part of your answer I did tell him I had a good time and he said he’d like to see me again but never followed through. Next!

The only other advice I'd give is that if you truly do like him, I'd let him know one final time that you'd like to go out again and it wouldn't hurt to ask him out. I get that women want to pursued and all that but sometimes a man just needs a push to get to a point where he feels he can pursue a woman. Men, in general, are really dense. I've heard of guys who literally didn't know that a woman was into them, even when they outright told them that they like them, until the woman jumped him and initiated sex. With the sheer amount of rejection men face in today's society, it becomes difficult to believe women when they show interest simply because for some of us it's the exception and not the norm.
