What's your ideal first date?

I have been living with my girlfriend for two years and intend to propose in the next two months, so my dating days are done, but when I was dating. . . I had a standard first date that worked fairly well. This worked for me because it is suited to my generation and because I have enough income to not be worried about paying for everything on a date.

I would suggest meeting at a specific restaurant on a Friday or Saturday night. The night of the week it important; a woman feels she is being treated more special if she is the date for Friday or Saturday night, and less likely to worry about who else I may already be dating.

The restaurant is Seasons 52. It is nice, a little bit upscale but not over the top, quiet and conducive to conversation, and it has an attached lounge for an after dinner drink.

All of my dating was from online meetings so I suggested she meet me at the restaurant. A smart woman doesn't reveal her home address too soon when online dating, and certainly doesn't give a guy her address so he can pick her up for the first date.

I arrive at the restaurant early. I don't want her to be waiting on me, so I get there early and wait on her.

I ask for us to be seated in a booth, and suggest that we sit side-by-side. This allows for more intimate conversation.

I offer her a glass of wine before dinner but never push her to drink anything.

I had a few canned questions I could ask if there was a lull in the conversation but that rarely happened.

After dinner, the waiter asks about dessert and my date declines (because a woman doesn't want a guy thinking she is a cow,) but she really wants a dessert! I suggest that I would like a dessert and ask if she would be interested in sharing a dessert. She is happy to "do me a favor" and share, so I ask her to look at the dessert menu, and she suggests whatever has the most chocolate. One dessert, two forks or spoons. Sharing a dessert is a little bit more intimate than what most people do on a first date but it feels very natural and she is happy to get some of that Triple Chocolate Cake Drowning in Fudge Ice Cream.

If all is going well, I tell her that I am really enjoying the conversation and if she has the time, I suggest that we move to the lounge for an after-dinner drink. This is the only alcoholic drink I will have during the entire evening.

After the drink, I walk her to her car. If it feels right, I reach down and take her and in mine as we are walking. When we arrive at her car, I tell her I had a great time and I move in. . . for a hug. After a few moments, I keep my arms around her waist but pull my face back so I can look into her eyes. If she seems to be receptive, I give her a goodnight kiss (NOT a tonsil examination!)

About 30 minutes later, I text to ask if she arived home safely. When she responds, I tell her that I hope she enjoyed the date and I look forward to talking to her soon.

There is nothing original in this script but, if we are a good match, it produces a great first date and almost invariably leads to a second date.

There was mention of it taking 19 hours of time spent together over a period of ideally 6 montgs - I am urging her for a weekend away and spend 48 or 72h together non-stop right away - still zero pressure situation, simply to be near her and in relative or good comforts.

Would depend how well I know him. For me I won’t do a blind date i have to already have met or know him a little. So if I agree to go out then something low key nice meal or coffee or drink. I want a place where I can get to know more to see if we have chemistry before wasting any more time. Lol.

Something like ice skating, a picnic in the park or something which will spark conversation without the awkward stares and looks etc
