For future reference, I have an ex to whom I sometimes said that. She would argue until I gave up, then act as if she had "won" the argument. I would tell her "you won," meaning, "I know that you need to think you win every argument, and I really don't want to argue, so I'll just humor you and 'confess' that you have won. So, now, will you please shut up?" Obvously, that relationship didn't last.

you need to ask him. I don't say that, but I think it's wise to discuss and let a lot of things be or go. most things aren't worth arguing over, a lot is worth listening to to understand the others view... for it can differ and I can learn from it.

He could learn to say other things that are positive and reinforcing. As it is, it sounds like he says that because he thinks the way most guys are trained... there is a winner and a loser in our culture! In a relationship, it's like saying there's you and me rather than "us".

Sounds like a manipulation tactic, instead of talking about the issues and coming to a resolution, he just says "you won" hoping to either get you to change your mind, or to stop you from arguing in the future. There definitely are arguments where it's better if one side just concedes and you agree to disagree but there are better ways to do it than ending the discussion with "you won"
