A random man added me to Facebook and won’t speak to me. What’s that about? Is it a stranger, or an acquaintance from my past who’s too scared to speak to me directly?

We cannot know who this person is. Either ask them (you can always delete them if it gets weird or creepy) or just delete them outright.

Just delete them. People add randoms on Facebook all the time. Especially dudes adding random women.
