This might be long, but I have a crush on a guy at work. I recently bought a beautiful dress for a valentines dance happening at my college. I showed him the dress and he complimented it and as I was talking about it he asked what my date was going to wear. I said, "I didn't have a date." He said, "How could you not have a date, and you're going like that?"
The next day he also brought up if I had my dance yet. I said no. I was too scared to ask him if he wanted to go.

I think you are both dancing around asking each other out. That is what I get from this. You are scared so you hinted with the "I didn't have a date" comment hoping he would ask and he countered with the "How could you not have a date".

You know, if you want to go with him, you need to work up the courage and ask. I know it is nerve wracking. I was there once. I asked my now husband on our first date. I cannot explain the anxiety and nerves I had going all day. In the end, had I not taken the leap, we may not be married and I might have never seen him again.

The only thing I will caution is workplace romance. It is a sticky situation a lot of times. So many places don't even allow relationships with coworkers because of the problems that can arise from them, even if they are going well.

It is even worse when they are not going well. There is a lot to think about before jumping into one. However, I am going to guess he did want to go with you and was hinting at it.
