Trending & News Whether being single or in a relationship is better is subjective and can vary from person to person. Both states have their own advantages and disadvantages.
Being single can have a number of advantages, including:
Freedom: When you are single, you have more freedom to do what you want, when you want. You can make plans without having to check with a partner or worry about how your actions will affect someone else.
Independence: Being single can encourage you to become more self-sufficient and rely on yourself more, which can lead to personal growth and increased confidence.
More time for personal pursuits: Without the demands of a relationship, you have more time to focus on your own interests, hobbies, and personal goals.
Less stress: Relationships can be rewarding, but they can also be stressful. Being single eliminates the stress of managing a relationship, especially during difficult times.
More opportunities for socialising: Being single can lead to more opportunities for socialising with friends and meeting new people.
No compromises: In a relationship, you often have to compromise on certain things to maintain a healthy dynamic. When you're single, you can make decisions without having to consider someone else's needs or preferences.
While being single can have its advantages, there are also some potential disadvantages, including:
Loneliness: Without a partner, you may experience feelings of loneliness, especially during periods of stress or difficult life events.
Lack of emotional support: When you are single, you may not have someone to turn to for emotional support during challenging times.
Limited physical intimacy: Unless you have casual sexual relationships, you may not have regular access to physical intimacy and the emotional benefits that come with it.
Social pressure: There may be social pressure to be in a relationship, which can lead to feelings of inadequacy or shame if you are single.
Fewer shared experiences: When you are single, you may miss out on shared experiences with a partner, such as traveling together or building a life together.
Increased responsibilities: Being single can also mean taking on more responsibilities, such as managing finances and household tasks on your own.
Being single is security, safety, independence when in a relationship there are a million things you gonna start worrying worrying about and worst of all when you fall in love it makes you dependent it makes you weak it’s like someone else will decide if you gonna have a good day or bad one I don’t care who or how powerful you are it’s always someone on the inside will bring you down if you picked the wrong person.
But with the Right one your life can be perfect until you loose them and you realise its like loosing a part of your lung and you never be able to take a full breath like you used to ever again.
Your choice.
I can't vote for two reasons, one is that I think the answer depends on the person and you could also say it depends on what relationship is available. No relationship is better than a bad relationship. For me, I would rather be in a relationship as long as it is a good relationship, I don't want to judge what is best for everybody though. Also the way the options are worded, it is obvious that you think "single" is the best answer and you think being in a relationship reduces freedom, it is fine to think that, but I can't vote without my vote buying into that way of looking at it which is not how I look at it. JMO!
I don't get why people still talk about love relationships as if they were hell or had bad sides, if you feel you have no freedom because you're in a relationship then you should think about it better and see what's wrong, if there are trust issues or whatever. If you feel trapped because of a relationship, then it is definitely not working well, reminds me of the typical marriage jokes of "I hate my wife/husband" if something doesn't work, fix it or leave it, but don't stick to it just because.
It’s not that simple though. What if you’re in an abusive relationship you can’t just leave as they won’t let you. The relationship you’re in is hell and you can’t leave unless you kill them or yourself, and if by a miracle you do leave chances are they will keep on at you and won’t leave you alone.
@TheVigilantFox That's an extreme side of the topic. I'm pretty sure the asker wasn't asking about that.

I can't vote, cause I have plenty of freedom either way. There is nothing I want to do as single that I cannot do the same thing when in a relationship.
Relationships do not take away any of my freedom, or his.
Well aside from fucking whoever you want
I agree with you 100%!
We are always in relationship and in not is relationship too. I prefer to be coupled for life with family.
Single. For being single, i can stay in the bathroom as long as I want or need and I don't have some mofo waiting for me. Or I can just go where I want without brandon panting because I'm walking too fast. Good freedom for me. And not to waste someone's time thinking I want to bang them... i won't and won't think about it forever. :)
It depends!
The freedom is a wonderful thing if you're in an unhappy relationship. But if you are in love then being in a relationship is definitely better.
I've been in a relationship where I missed being single a lot, and then I've been single where I missed my ex a lot. It really depends.
I'm in love
Well said!
Thanks
For what?
Oh yes, being single is amazing.
I’ve come to realise after my toxic nightmare that being single is so much better than being with someone.
I no longer have awful mental health issues ( well not as bad anyway)
I’m not hit anymore or threatened so yes I love being single.
Technically if you really loved the person and they trusted you you can go out without any questions. That’s still freedom. If they are controlling and stuff then it’s a different story. Hopefully you can have a bit of freedom when you are in a relationship.
You are making relationship sound like it is some kind of inhuman, depressing slavery. If you are in a RIGHT type of relationship for the right reasons, it is the most beautiful thing you could ever experience, but if you are in a relationship, just so you can say you are in a relationship especially with a person who you don't really like or want for a long term, than yes relationship is hell and it bound to fail.

Being in a relationship is much better in terms of freedom because then I can be FREE to be my true romantic self and shower her with LOVE! ❤️
When I am single, I can't do that. I have to keep my love locked in a box. My heart is locked in a box. Therefore, my very self -- my soul -- is also locked in a box.
I agree with you.
@katestar89 Thanks!
How are you doing?
Doing fine! Thanks! :)
I know that you're doing well.
It can very.
I've been single for long periods of time and I did enjoy the freedom to come and go.
I've been in long term relationships and with the right person they are great to be in.
I'm very independant, so I need to be with someone that is also independant.
I don't have the time or energy to be with someone that is clingy or can't function alone.
I wouldn't say that it is better, no. Having someone to emotionally confide in is very important.
I don't know if I want to get married to my current partner, but I know that I'm basically planning to have her in my life for a very long time.
I can't vote because I don't agree with these options. Being in a relationship doesn't mean that you're gonna stop having freedom. If you truly love and trust eachother, both of you are going to have plenty of freedom.
It's not like I prefer one thing or the other. Right now I'm single and I'm completely fine with that, but if somebody comes along and I get to know him and realize that I want to be in a relationship with him, I'm gonna be fine with that too. I'm not against any of those two situations. Whatever happens, happens.
That being said, if your question is "what if you're in love with someone but they don't give you enough freedom?" then I would 100% prefer being single.
What kind of poll is this? What does your freedom has to do with your relationship status lmao you wana be single clearly!
A relationship is a lot more than just 2 people being committed to each other! A good healthy relationship will you not question
Your question reflects your personal bias. If you don't want to be in a relationship, that is your choice to make. However, there s no need to criticize others who are in relationships. Apparently, you don't understand what a good relationship is and what that does for people; that s a reflection on your lack of experience and not on the "ignorance" of other people for being in relationships.
I don't know why you want to feel better about being single. I agree that being single is better than being in a bad relationship, but if you want a relationship then being single isn’t that great.
You can have a plenty of freedom in a relationship. You just can't be with others. On the rare chances I flirt I make it clear multiple times I have a girlfriend and I am committed 100%. I make sure that I am not interested in cheating on my girlfriend and that the flirting is just fof fun and we're not doing anything more. Most girls seem to like flirting with no strings, plus they like that I give compliments readily.
Humans are emotional beings made specifically for comparability and companionship as In our own intentional design. A person who evades this function by merely being (SELFISH) is being counterintuitive and finds throughout life that society compresses extremities towards the one who intrinsically trys a coup attempt against the majority. Selfishness is the root to all evils in this world.
From my understanding there is no freedom in relationships, especially in relationships where his money is their money but her money is her money, where he has to ask permission to buy what he wants or go and do things he wants with his own money but she can do whatever she wants whenever she wants with his money. Which this happens in 99% of relationships.
Such a difficult question 😑 but I’m gonna choose being in a relationship with limitations than being alone because the truth it it sucks after some point in life. I have been single for the last 7 years and it’s getting boring day by day.
What makes you think you have no freedom in a relationship?
EXACTLY!
I'm honestly having a great time being single to the point I'm hesitating to date even even I like someone lol.
Becouse of fedom be better to be alone, becouse so much else better to be with someone
There may be more freedom in being alone, but its not like being with someone means no freedom

People who have been single from the start, like me, are ineligible to answer this question, as that would not be an unfair comparison. And conclusion.
Sorry, got confused with the logic.😅
Replace "an unfair" with "a fair".
If you crave that kind of freedom more, yes by all means, live that life! But Being free with another person sounds much better to me.
I don’t get why freedom is the caveat in this question. It seems pretty obvious which one most people will choose especially if you’re not going to define freedom in this context. Men are happier and healthier in relationships with the right partner.
I’ve had freedom in my relationships including a marriage. I am allowed to be independent regardless of my status.
I am in a relationship, but I am free. I'm not free to screw around, but, I am free to do what I want, when I want?
Being married has made it much more easy and safe to do the things that I want. I haven't lost any freedom to do what I want at all.
Neither is better, but if you feel like you got no freedom while being in a relationship, you should end it as its a toxic relationship.
Is being single better than being in a negative relationship? Yes
Is being single better than being in a healthy, loving, caring etc relationship? Now that is debatable but tio me it is not better.
No. It depends on each individual.
God created Our Universe with Love and Free Will. Use your Free Will to Love!
If you feel trapped in a relationship then that's a recipe for disaster in my book.
Excellent point!
Neither both has perks, but being able to balance being a single person with individual thoughts and ideas, and also being able to mesh with another person to grow and learn from is the best
I can't really vote. I'm currently enjoying being single and just not dealing with another person but occasionally miss sex and cuddles. So both have their good and their bad.
I love Freedom being single. I can do what ever I want and I answer to no one. I all ways felt like women were trying to control my life and it causes conflict.
I don't think your Q is worded correctly. This is NOT a "If NOT A, then B" Q. The two ideas: relationships and freedom are mutually exclusive. My A would be that I want and can have both a relationship and freedom!
Being single overall is better as life is much more stressful and you don't have to deal with another person needs and wants and problems but the lack of meaningful sex is the difficult part which a relationship provides.
*stress less
To be honest, I feel like being single is better.
I definitely want love/commitment but freedom is on another level. Its so fcking addicting
Yes,,,,,, An Austin Powers theme comes to mind, but, yes.
What kind of freedom do you think is lost? I would love to be in a committed relationship.
Independence
Be in a relationship?
Especially if it’s a toxic or hostile environment for a relationship
My relationship will be normal
I have been single almost off of my life. And from the outside looking in to have witnessed the outcome the alternative for men remaining single is by far much better.
Lmao. Easily can have freedom and be in a relationship. If you're shackled to each other like one of those sitcoms, then you obviously have no boundaries.
can't realy vote on this one, freedom is even possible in a relationship and should always be.
There isn't much benefit to being "single" if it's your prison.
Being single is better than being in a relationship because freedom
No. In a good relationship you get a level of intimacy that is way more pleasurable than any hook up, or friend with benefits.
I haven't experienced a true relationship dynamic yet, so I actually can't say.
Why is no freedom when you are in a relationship? If one is controlling the other than yes but if the two can talk out their problems than what is the problem and how are you sure being single has more benefits than being a couple?
Being in a relationship does not rid of ones freedom. If it does you are a slave.
In normal times have a wife and children is best. However, with the insanity of our modern society, for men, that has become very risky.
There is still some freedom if you don’t see them every day, it’s only when married you lose a lot of freedom
It's always telling when someone frames a question so that the possible answers they provide are designed to reinforce their confirmation bias...
I think of we live happily and by their own term if we do not interfere each other life while being in relationship.
I’ve been single for too long. I’d much rather be in a relationship with somebody very special, and I found her.
Being single is better then being in a relationship because your a damaged whore...
I can never be in a relationship because I am very unstable emotionally. I don’t want to hurt anyone and I wouldn’t want my family knowing because they are narcissistic.
I think being single is better not only because of freedom but if you feel you might cheat rather be single that way you don't go around hurting people
It's better than being in a stifling relationship, not a healthy one.
