Why does my ex blame me for the breakup when he was also partly at fault for it?

Because no one can take a shared 50/50 responsibility these days. Immature is about the only reason.

Hopefully your friends know better than to believe all that. Sometimes, one or two of those "friends" want to get in his pants too. I have had that kind of come on happening to me...
