Why would parents tell their son to find a girlfriend?

Becouse they are worried
The older you are the harder it is to gain new habbits or learn stuff
Someone that is not going out and so on makes it harder for them self to learn to talk and be with someone else
And a lonely life is overall something seen as nagtive, I mean staticley your parants will leave the plant before you, and if you dont have your self a girlfriend or a wife or family of much, you may just find your self alone, with no one to grow old with you or take care of you, and so on

Could also be many more things, but that depends more on colture and stuff

Usually because they feel like they son would be happier or more fulfilled if he had a girlfriend. That's almost always what it comes down to. Even when they say it in anger. It's because they want their son to be happy, and believe that having a girlfriend would make him happier.

Societal norm. People basically assume that once you have a career or are in a stable situation in life, then the next step you're expected to do is get a partner and settle down.
