What do I do about this guy I haven’t seen in ten years?

I just moved to my hometown 3 and a half months ago. This guy connected with me a month ago. We dated (not seriously) for a summer ten years ago. I never slept with him. Anyway, we connected and since then he has rescheduled me twice and lastly offered me to join him and two of his coworkers at an expensive dinner. I invited a girlfriend but he said he wasn’t going to treat us just to be clear so I just skipped. Today I told him how I felt that I was confused and annoyed. He called me and I didn’t pick up. He then said let’s meet for coffee I didn’t want to pay for a stranger. I told him in text I don’t know if has time for a coffee tbh. Should I call him back to work it out or just drop him?

I don't think that this is something really serious, at least not from his point of view. I believe that he thought he could continue where you guys left off 10 years ago.

I find it highly suspicious that he would invite you to a fancy and expensive place and that he would retract after you asked a friend to tag along. I believe that there is more to the entire situation than a simple get together after 10 years.

Your best bet would be to simply forget this guy and to move on. I don't honestly think that there would be a positive outcome in the long run but only conflicting situations.

If he's smart he will get rid of you. First of all, why would you invite your friend along to dinner? To chaperone? Second, why tf would he be paying for her? Did he invite her? No, you did. And then you cancel because he calls you out... wow the lack of self awareness is astounding.

Did he say you could invite a guest? If he is hosting the dinner he can invite who he wants. I notice you ducked my question about why he would be paying for her. Do you seriously think he should pay for her?
