Why would he ask if I have had sex recently?

I have been talking to this guy for a couple of months. We met (quickly, never had sex or kissed) and he went back to his hometown for 2 months. He is coming back in a few weeks and we started texting again. He asked if I have had sex recently. I said I haven't. He said Ok good. Just making sure. Why would he care if I have had sex? Why would he ask me this?
