For me, leading one on or keeping them in a state of confusion is a much worse kind of hurt.

"I am flattered, however, I do not have that sort of vibe with you." At this point, one can not approach her again but one can wave and behave in a way in which she does not feel like a pyorrhea. And, if she approaches you again then recognize you might have a crushing friend for awhile.

@fredaarhin that's not a great idea because it's not a clear no. She should understand that it's a "no" but she may not, just as many men wouldn't. He should politely decline with a vague reason like "That's very sweet but I don't think it would work."

Honesty. It may hurt in the moment, but at least it shows you're respecting that person. I would probably be able to tell if it was an excuse, and just feel pathetic.

Of course the truth is always better, and I think it depends on the nature of the situation as well. Like if you’re always making excuses with them then it’ll be obvious you’re being avoidant and don’t want to hang out with them. But if it’s just here and there, then I don’t think it’s so bad to take the “easy” way out lol. Used sparingly of course!
