I hear people say that but I think it's just a way of insulting the opposite sex. The reality is that men are attracted to women like their mothers because mothers usually show the best side of feminine nature toward their children, and men just want the same feminine nature in a mate. And the same is true of women and fathers. It's just the yin and yang of femininity and masculinity.

For both the definition of opposite gender closeness comes/gets learned from opposite gender parent. We all want to be babied, provided and cared for, cuddled, kissed etc. That was usually done by the opposite gender parent.

For sure. But I actually think you can tell more about a woman from her relationship with her father than you can tell about a man with his relationship with his mother, excluding the extremities. I suspect almost every feminist out there had a shit father or no father or a weak fag father.

Of course you can still tell a lot about man from his relationship with his mother. For example, most violent rapists are black with turbulent with single mothers. Most pedophile predators are white with extremely loving relationships with single mothers. That doesn't mean everyone in this category is a rapist or predator pedo. But it does mean the extremities in this distribution all fall under the same relational patterns with their mothers. But I suspect there is equally enlightening, if not more enlightening, similar patterns to be discovered among women with respect to their relations with their fathers.

So a parent of the opposite sex establishes in a persons mind a baseline for dealing with the opposite sex. If you are a man and your mother was cold and career driven, you’re more familiar with that, and someone similar to that may appeal to you. “Women like assholes” is a shortcut for “those women’s dads were probably assholes”. They saw how their fathers treated them and their mothers and often seek out familiarity in relationships.

It depends on if their fathers were good role models or if they were not someone who they looked up to. It also depends on if they like their fathers.
