My girlfriend and I disagree on my living situation. Who is right here?

I just started dating my girlfriend 2 months ago. She has an apartment in a nice part of town. I live out of a hotel room by choice. I do not see the point in paying rent AND utilities when I can save and buy a home. What I pay at the hotel is equivalent to rent in my area, but without utilities added. My girlfriend believes I need to get an apartment at my age. The hotel has everything I need.

I live near Nashville, where the average rent is $1300 easily, with $1100 being the BARE MINIMUM to avoid the ghetto. $1100 plus utilities in Nashville can add up to $1700-$1800, or even $2000 in the winter. NES, Nashville's electric service, is excessively expensive, as are all the utility districts within an hour of Nashville.

If it’s working for you, I don’t see why she takes issue. Especially this early, she shouldn’t be impacted by your living situation. By the way, I’m surprised you found a hotel that competes with rent in your area. I had a friend living out of a hotel for a while and he was paying $400 a week which at the time, I was paying $450 a month in my old apartment. (This was Indiana.)

It is an Intown Suites, which is designed for extended stays. I pay $320 a week, so $320x4= $1280.

In Nashville, the average MINIMUM rent to avoid the hood is around $1100, but with utilities that easily jumps above $1700-$1800, sometimes even $2000 in winter. NES, Nashville's electric company, is ruthless.

I agree with you. I lived for 3 years in a month to month Extended Stay America. It wasn't as private, it smelled funny after people partied, but no cable, no electricity bill, no water bill and I got cleaning and towels.
