Who is right in this situation?

My boyfriend, his friend and I are moving in together and are currently flat hunting. Before anyone asks, yes I would like I move in alone with my boyfriend but we are both 19 (me almost 20) and he would like to have a group flatting experience before we move in alone as a couple.

His friend, let's call him John, is working full time while my boyfriend and I both study and work. At all the flats we have viewed John has decided he wants the master bedroom or the biggest bedroom there is, without even discussing it with us or having a debate. Technically he is paying more rent as a single person, but my boyfriend and I will be sharing a room and will be paying more rent together for one room.

I think it is unfair that John is angling for the master bedrooms as we are a couple and naturally need more space than a single person. Do you think John is in the right or my boyfriend and I?

Find another future roommate! he is probably in thw wrong, but doesn't matter. . . if he caves in, he will resent it and you'll be hearing about it in the not too distant future.

That's a fair enough idea, the thing is he is living with my boyfriend right now, he's generally a nice guy and we've all agreed to move in. There's no one else we would want to flat with so it's a bit tough.

Have you considered getting a fourth person and sharing a three bedroom place? In that arrangement, the master more clearly belongs to the two of you.
