Well for one, it has definitely made us have higher standards both visually and personality wise. Never in history have we been exposed to so many good looking people as we are now being shown and the relationship accounts/ YT channels show us only the best sides mostly so we've kinda started to imagine that relationships with the right people are so amazing, no fights, super romantic etc. When in reality it isn't like that for anyone and we should drop the fairytale like image.
We are also probably way more choosing than we should be and probably that's the reason why many of us are single, whether it's because we think we deserve someone better or there is someone better out there so we always keep hoping someone better comes along and not settling down with the person we have. Plus there's way more options put there as well. Either way it has made us delusional and picky.
Also from personal experience, before I got rid of social media, I was insecure as hell because social media shows only the prettiest people out there, once I deleted it and went outside I realised that most of us don't look as amazing as the people that are famous. Some do, but most don't.
It does have some positive sides tho, I think many people have realised that certain things their partner does are toxic and manipulative. It kinda has like exposed things we should not be okay with, which is good. Quite few people didn't probably realise they were being manipulated and in abusive relationship until social media came along
someone lik me who has ocd and has uncomfortable feeling in my right arm i am treated as ugly, useless, disabled, lazy, fat, small head, big eyes, alien, wanna be gang rape, insecure, arrogant, short, dumb abd many many more... i think if you have issues or illness or disorder you are treated WORTHLESS because people especially some men love the perfect women
physical appearance has always been important. the only difference is, dating apps allow for easier selection, easier quick judgements and some degree of anonymous behavior without ever needing to go the distance (figuratively and mathematically)
in the past when people didn't have the looks they can compensate in other areas. this is no longer case without heavy virtue signaling. decades of social engineering has completely reversed tradition back to ancient times however resources are monopolized thus its even more superficial now than ever
before dating apps, people had to meet in person and when they did, it was obvious from the beginning whether someone had interest in someone else due to their looks. body language and reactions can tell the story
with dating apps, no one ever has to worry about "creeps" approaching them and these apps allow for open disrespect towards those they don't find attractive
while social media is mostly fake, it has a lot true reflections on real life for what the average person likes to see. people like seeing attractive people on social media and this boils over in real life. character doesn't matter no more. it's all about emotions and being "in the moment"
I think it has created a buffet style mentality and it makes it hard for many people to be able to choose one person.

A lot of people look different to the photos they post.
Its turned dating and friendship into a buffet. I don't see it getting any better.
