My boyfriend refuses to wear deodorant?

I love my boyfriend so much. He’s the sweetest guy I’ve ever met.

I just have one problem with him and that is his body odor. He won’t use deodorant. He’s scared of the chemicals he says it’ll give him cancer and stuff. I’ve been nagging him about this for months. In the beginning of our relationship I didn’t want to say anything because I thought he had a sweating problem and I felt bad for him, but then I found out he doesn’t use deodorant and that’s why. He agrees he smells so bad sometimes but it doesn’t bother him as much as it bothers me. We don’t live together so I can kind of handle this right now because I get breaks from the smell. But it stays in my pillow, in my blankets and even my mattress has gotten a slight hint of his sweat. His smell even sticks to my hair and my body after we cuddle. I’ve tried talking to him about this so many times and he just laughs and apologizes and says he’ll start eating better and his sweat will start to smell better. He stopped smoking a while ago and then he told me it would get better after that but it hasn’t. This is making me so sick to the point that I dread him coming over because I know my bed will smell after (don’t get me wrong I always want to be with him). But as I said before, I love him so so much but I don’t know what to do about this anymore he said he’d rather be alone than use deodorant. I can’t just break up with someone because of their body odor. I don’t know what to do anymore. Am I just being selfish and shallow?

Of course it is ultimately his choice. But if it is about cancer or something like that, then educating yourselves together should fix it. You can also look into alternatives that do not use anything he's against. As someone posted there are plenty of alternatives that do not use any lab-made chemicals.

Ultimately this is going to be important to him. Work. Family. Friends. Heck even living spaces will all suffer because of it. He can do as he wants but wanting to smell bad isn't a great idea in our society.

It also does not have to be deoderant if he is irrational about that. There are scented oils, talc, and more. But really, I'd put down my foot were I you. At least about him sitting down and learning a bit about the effects of deoderant. Pretty much every case is about Breast Cancer, which as a man he's not very likely to get, and not a single one of them has been proved.

But really, he smoked and refuses deoderant because of alleged cancer risks. There's obviously some reason he isn't sharing or some hangup at play here. It occurs to me in other countriew smoking might not mean nicotine. But point stands anyway.

There are some types of supposedly natural deodorants for people who have unwarranted fear about the other ones. You might want to try to talk to him about getting one of these or even buying him one and see if he'll use it. I'm not sure it's all that effective, but it's probably better than nothing. More importantly, however, do you really want to be with somebody who believes in conspiracy theories to the extent that they're willing to lose a good relationship rather than give up their false beliefs? Because this is where you are with this guy.

Also - people who smell bad often seem to have mineral or vitamin deficiencies and sometimes smell (and feel) better when those problems are corrected. Your boyfriend should see a doctor, that is, if he believes in doctors. It would not be surprising if he doesn't.

This is where you screwed yourself. You knew he smelled, then you knew he didn’t wear deodorant, and you still chose to stay both times. So stop nagging him about something you already knew he was against. If he doesn’t want deodorant, respect his decision and make your own separately. You either coexist with the stink or end things with him.

You are right, I have to accept his decision. I just feel like this is such a dumb thing to end a relationship over and i love him so much. No one has ever cared for me as much as he does.

I’m sorry, I know it sounds like a dumb reason but what can you do? If you keep bringing it up you will only make him feel bad about himself, which you don’t want, and you can’t keep excusing his B. O., especially when he’s so smelly he’s glued to your body and leaving odor trails, very yuck🤢
Some women think stinky men have the best scent on earth and others aren’t fans. It is what it is. If anything I think you should learn from this and never settle again going forward. I used to do that with an ex who was too short, I’d make excuses for the situation, try and find confidence from women in successful relationships with short guys, wear flat shoes, I didn’t everything possible to try and make myself comfortable because he was a wonderful guy and in the end I had to be real with myself. It’s time for you to do the same.

Then why isn't he trying any of the natural chemical free ones? If he isn't doing this, then that's just an excuse. There are some very effective chemical free ones, as well as perfectly natural creams designed for skin that also work as excellent deodorant. There is no excuse!

Change his diet make him work out he's holding all his toxins in make him drink tons of water and make him drink lemon water. Eat grape fruit pine apple and take a shower or even a bath when he washes his clothes make him wash them until they are clean

Well, will he meet you halfway? If there are particular chemicals he objects to, would he be willing to use one that doesn't have them? Or even to make it himself? I'm pretty sure I've seen simple recipes for homemade deoderant online over the years; not sure how well they work, but they'd at least help.

I don't use deodorant for pretty much those same reasons. Do some research and there have been multiple studies that show that chemical deodorants cause cancer. The anti perspirant ones are particularly bad. They effect the lymph nodes that are adjacent to your armpits.
