On a nearly daily basis, at least on workdays, I deal with attorneys who are experts in certain areas of law. They are all smarter than I am, at least in those areas. I play chess online against people rated IM, sometimes even a GM. The GM's, and probably most of the IM's, are smarter than I will ever be in chess, even though I do occasional draw or have even scraped out two wins against IM's (in lots and lots of games).

On this site there are people who are clearly smarter than I am in certain areas.

I think that being smart isn't an absolute. Some people are smarter in some areas, and other people in some others.
