It really annoys me as well since if you are typing as I am, you won't know which of the two texts I am responding to and my meaning could be not obvious. I'm a guy and not as dexterous as you and my fingers are bigger so my texting rate is slower. Plus my life experience is if a girl can misunderstand a text then she will. So I will be careful how I phrase things.

On the other hand it doesn't seem clingy to me but a bit rude and demanding.
