If someone puts on their dating profile they’re looking for everything “casual, friends, relationship etc”, should it be assumed they want casual?

Most likely "casual" is the option that person wants primarily. I'm the opposite in that I usually have only one mode and it's for a relationship. If I can't find someone to have a relationship with, then I stay single until I do find someone. I know it sounds old-fashioned, but that's just me.

I think it’s more like they will categorize their catches. They would like a serious thing but if no-one they consider is worthy of their commitment then they want casual stuff to fill the moments where they don’t have any serious options.

If someone selected everything on their dating profile I would assume they would take whatever they can get, at least that was my reasoning when I was using dating sites.
