How long into dating should the "relationship" talk happen?

Most of my dating was from online meetings so I already knew whether a girl was interested in a long term relationship or just casual sex. I think that when I started seriously considering the prospect of dating this woman exclusively and not looking at amy other candidates, then it was time for me to have the talk. Of course, sometimes she was not also at that same point and I waited until she was also ready.

I don't think there's an explicit time because people's situations obviously vary a lot, but if you're a couple months in and looking to "formalize" it with labels etc then by that point I see probably broach the topic. But it really does depend. Some people know within a couple dates if they're with someone they want to try a relationship with while others sit through months of casual dating/situationships before they're ready to start making more commitments to the other person. I think a lot rides on how well each individual needs to know someone before committing to anything.

By the third date in my opinion but some people feel that’s too soon. Definitely before you start having sex.

I've been on first dates where my date tells me she is or isn't looking for a relationship, and other times, it's been months of dating before the questions is mentioned.

Depends on the couple. I asked my girlfriend a week after our first date to be exclusive. I was completely sure that she is the woman I want to spend my forever with.

Other people will probably have a longer waiting period if they are looking for a relationship.
