How badly did I mess up my chances?

I met this girl from us hanging out with mutual friends. I didn’t talk to her much except for making her giggle every now and then by saying something stupid. So i tried asking my friend about her to give him hints into inviting us both to future events, but he saw it as me asking for her number through him and he did. She said she didn't feel comfortable giving her number to someone she didn't know and to man TF up and stop being a little b****h and ask her myself for her next time I see her. Not really her words but she said it in a much much nicer way lol. How do i go on asking her now because i feel like its gonna be really awkward?

Well the only way i have of communicating to her is through our friend or hanging out again in a group

Then try to find a way to spend some time with her again. Explain to her that you were just afraid to ask her for her number, because she's so beautiful, and that you apologize for making her uncomfortable.
