It really isn't anyone's business, but the two of you. That's one of the many reasons I hate people sometimes- no matter what you say or do, people will ALWAYS make assumptions about you. And of course just because a guy is your friend, people will assume you're dating or one of you likes the other...
So no, he doesn't have to explain anything unless he chooses to. People will make assumptions regardless. As long as you two know where you stand, that's really all that matters.
