Yes it’s too expensive. The problem is that during dating you don’t want to brown bag food. You want to put your best foot forward. You take your date to McDonald’s and she is going to think she made a mistake dating you.
Now I don’t believe we should do anything dating that we wouldn’t do a year down the line, or 2 years or 3 years… the point is don’t try to sell false goods. If you take her to fine restaurants then a year later it’s McDonald’s then a year later she will be looking for someone else. Sell who you are and what you can afford.
My current girlfriend lives in NYC and the dinners there for 2 are running from $140-$200 a dinner. I can afford this but for many people I’m sure doing this twice a week would be not sustainable. So in that case don’t do it.

I know people who date on a budget and the result is them take decades to find people who want to marry them. It's one thing if you work as a cashier and spend your dates at Tim Hortons or McDonald's but it's another thing if you buy yourself a $5,000 bottle of wine and then buy your date a $2.00 can of coke. A guy that is poor can still date, he just has to respect himself and also his girlfriend, don't spend more then he can afford, and don't ask the girl to pay for him either, unless she offers to and he isn't using her.

Well, I think it's viewed within a cost/benefit lens. And if you're really interested in someone, you don't really care if a bunch of money is spent on you- it's the company and the future potential represented by that person.

If you expect quality, someone who'll contribute to your life beyond what a prostitute (male & female) will, then you actually put in the effort. Dating isn't too expensive - and by this I don't mean $500 meals - because they want more than bottom of the barrel.
Since when does a date have to be expensive? I actually think its a green flag if they are being mindful of their expenses, and not throwing their money away to win someone over. I went on a date a while ago, and he picked me up in a very nice car (his), and we went to dinner and was very expensive, took me to miniature golf and straight after the movies. I think it cost about $200 total! He was not even concerned and I knew his job did not earn that much income to begin with so I wondered whether he knew about savings.
Being financial savvy is way more better than being unaware of expenses! But hey, that's just me. Otherwise anyone can go 50/50 in the expenses, such as dinner and drinks.
For most guys it is too expensive because modern women have absurd expectations thanks to social media and many of them getting flown out by rich guys. When a woman gets flown out to get pumped and dumped by a big shot she tends to believe that is the level of treatment she is entitled to instead of accepting that she doesn't qualify for commitment from these men. Now an average guy has to deal with average women thinking they deserve 5-star treatment because they got that a few times. It is essentially prima nocta and is causing society to fall apart. Dating doesn't have to cost money and if your financial situation is a struggle then choose activities that don't cost anything. If you're worried that this downgrades the experience of the date, it doesn't have to. Stay positive and focus on the time your spending with your date.
My most memorable date was a walk through a park at night. My girlfriend at the time drove me there so all it costed her was a little bit of gas and the time we spent there. It was a beautiful park and we very much enjoyed each others company. I was not from the city and she grew up there so she passed the time by telling about memories and experiences that she has had at the park. I was so into her that I just listened and took it all in while throwing in a joke here and there.
It's fine in my area. But being in a relationship does not even require eating out, so I don't see how it's even relevant. Eating out at restaurants a lot seems to be mostly characteristic of couples who are not in a serious relationship or barely into the relationship.

I think people are emotionally broken more when it comes to dating then financially dating. The older I've gotten the more i've realized I am not spending $150 for a date on a girl that's going to lead to no where. Nope. Hell, my ex roomie does the whole playboy thing, has half a dozen different females every week who flock to him thinking he's some smoothie gangster. He has at least that many texting him every day. I've seen on far more than one occasion where he initially set it up to take some female out for the night, then put on his slippers, tank top, cooked a home made meal, pulled out a cold one and put on movies. I asked him wasn't he going to go out? With a nonchalant look and a shrug his response would always be these exact words, "I don't feel like spending any money." Depends on the person. I know you're a proponent of the coffee date coach. But there are a certain segment of women that demand a guy cough up a certain level of money spent on the date. Some women call a coffee date a low effort date on a guys part and refuse to do it.
So yes in this sense a guy can be too broke to date. Especially when there are a lot of women serial daters out. All the more reason why I would ADVISE guys to take thier time choosing a woman to date. When you have limited resources you have to make the most of how you use them.

Even established married couples do things that don't cost a lot of money to be together. If you're talking about going out to dinner and movies frequently, then yes of course that's going to be expensive. Those are also very cliché date nights. If you can get creative and do things that are less expensive, or spend nights in cooking dinner or watching a film on TV, then that can be just as good, if not better.
Anything can be a date though. I don’t think it has to be solely based of a money experience. A walk in the park, free art galleries, window shopping, the beach… sure dating is pricey but if the person is really into you, I don’t think the money counts.

A date can be so simple, and it doesn't have to be cost prohibitive. Sometimes the safest dates are group outings with other friends. Perhaps a hike and a picnic? It's much cheaper to prepare delicious food for a picnic than it is to eat at a restaurant. I think individuals who are in the dating phase can find inexpensive ways to interact with others if they work at it.
