I suspect the group of people who despise simps is almost entirely populated by former simps. I think in general people would prefer that others do whatever makes them happy but when simping is the thing that makes someone happy, former simps know it doesn't actually work out. They know that being extra nice to women isn't going to get them laid, and watching a simp giddily pour themselves into niceness towards a woman only trains that woman to expect to be able to continue to recieve niceness in exchange for nothing, and will inevitably lead to the simp being disillusioned.
The former simps would like to accelerate that process and so try to get the simp's attention in the same manner they think they should use to get women's attention: by being an asshole. It just doesn't occur to them that maybe women want to believe guys like to take care of them with no strings, as taking care of each other with no strings is kind of the fundamental function of a tribe or larger civilization. Indeed, the recoil of "no one is going to take care of you unless you fuck us" is the message they want to pound into the boobs of every woman who has them, and simps distort that message.
I do think this is overblown, though. An ambience of anticivilization rhetoric benefits the far right, which owns most of the media. That suggests it's intentional. If ever rich people decided to just pay their taxes, all this would lose funding, whole far right media empires would shutter, and we'd be back to normal in like 20 years..

I don't think it is always wrong. I'd say it can be bad. For sure when it comes to simps and celebs, streamers etc it can make a person so devoted to something ouside of the real world.
