Will he ever propose?

I have been with my boyfriend almost 6 years now. On new years day 2023 I got a bit drunk and said if you don’t propose to me this year I won’t stay around forever.

It’s now mid October and looks unlikely that my wish has been taken into consideration even if it wasn’t 100% serious, I thought it was a pretty decent hint. I’m starting to think that it won’t happen. Thinking of just moving on?

Just remember that in today's world it's incredibly dangerous for a guy to get married. So it's understandable why he's very hesitant

Yes. VERY Dangerous. The way the laws are set up, a woman can take half of the stuff you earned, you have to pay alimony 9/10 times, AND if there's children involved there's a high probability that they get taken away from him. And then you add onto the fact that over 50 percent of marriages end in divorce, and 80 percent of them are initiated by the woman. That spells disaster in all caps, and is the reason why a lot of guys are very, VERY hesitant to marry in the US.

And what's worse is that there are many women who are aware of the advantages they have in the laws, and some of them, not all, but some plan to use that from the get go and tell the man what he wants to hear like, "Oh don't worry baby, I'll never do that to you," Only to do it all in the end. And it's not like there's a danger sign over them either so you never know. So before you get all frustrated about him not putting a ring on your finger, remember all the things I told you and consider his side and his stance and his concerns. Because I guarantee that he does not want to join the millions of men who have horror stories of their own about the consequences of a failed marriage.

Is you want to be married, you should move on. Next time don't wait six years for a proposal. A year or so is enough.

Have you ever had a talk about marriage in general? Is he even the type of guy who wants to marry? Some dont see marriage as a "next step" or requierement for a healthy relationship.

Yes I’ve tried to talk about it in the past but it always gets brushed off/the subject gets changed

It takes some time for some guys. I really got panic feels when the topic about marriage came up with my ex even after 8 years toghether. It felt so finishing/caged.

I don't know how old he is but I hear that often when I talk about it with guyfriends of my age. Most dont want to settle down until in their mid 30s.
