Not always. People always assume that everyone is glued to their phones and can instantly reply to them when they message them. Sorry, but no...

If I don't reply right away, I'm working, busy, or not in the mood to chat right now. I can go all day without checking my phone, especially on the weekends when I'm not at work! I -will- reply eventually, but usually when I'm able to. And my friends and family are aware of this: outside my boss and a few select people, I don't always reply to people right away if I'm preoccupied.

Now if someone goes a long period of time without replying?

Yeah, I take silence as an answer. I'm not going to message them back begging for answer or "closure," I just leave them be. So you need to ask yourself, "Is this normal for said person to go a while without replying to me, or are they ignoring me?"

No it is not always an answer. They might be taking time looking into things, or something might have come up and they forgot that you texted them a question.
